Introduction
The eMINTS Instructional Model addresses all aspects of effective instruction required for modern, digital-age classrooms. Based on constructivist learning theory, it has four pillars focused on authentic learning, building a community of learners, using high-quality lesson design, and using technology to transform learning. Inquiry-based learning is at the heart of the eMINTS Instructional Model, and in this project, inquiry-based learning is extended to include design, where students engineer solutions to the problems they actively investigate. The Design Through Inquiry (DTI) Model incorporates engineering design and design thinking into the popular 5E Instructional Model, offering us a structure to use in the planning of design-based inquiry learning experiences.
